On that last summer’s eve
You took my hand
& held on tight
As you drove me home
That one last night.
My heart was pounding so much
That I thought my emotions would get the best of me,
But everything was soothed by your one & only touch
& then you told me everything would be alright.
As you slowed the car
You just stopped & stared at me,
& that look made this summer the best by far.
It sure wouldn’t be one I would soon forget.
When it came time to say goodbye
I almost couldn’t
Because I didn’t want this summer to die,
But I had to be strong.
Not only for me,
But because this was hard enough for you too,
So I walked away
& showed you how strong I could be.
Now while I wait for the next summer sun
I have nothing to do
But remember all the cute things you’d say,
Because the sun has set and gone
And taken my summer away.
